The Official Home of Crusader Rugby

Standards of Belmont Abbey College RFC

  1. Personal Responsibility: Take personal responsibility in your faith, your family and your academics. Remember that your first responsibility is to your Faith and Family, then to academic achievement.
  2. Sound Decision Making: Sound decision making under pressure is the cornerstone of a  solid rugby player both on and off the field.
  3. Integrity: Do the Right Thing, even if no one is looking.
  4. Pride: Have pride in your sport, your club and yourself. As a rugby player, your actions reflect upon all those associated with rugby and all current members, volunteers and alumni of your club.
  5. Organization: Maintain organization and commitment to your position and role on and off the field.
  6. Respect: Have respect for the game and its tradition of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Be gracious in victory and humble in defeat.

Club Membership

New players are always welcome. All we ask is that you become a member of the club and recognize the Belmont Abbey Rugby Principles and Standards. All students enrolled at Belmont Abbey College are eligible and encouraged to participate in rugby - no experience is required. While there are no tryouts or required testing, rugby is a contact sport that requires a commitment to practice and physical fitness. Submit your contact info and/or questions about the club in the Contact Us tab.

Seasons and Practice

Rugby is played in two seasons. The fall season begins when school starts and continues into late November.  The spring season begins in January and continues into April. Practice times and match dates for the upcoming seasons will be scheduled appropriately.

Equipment

Typical practice attire consists of a pair of shorts, a shirt, a pair of cleats (preferred), and a mouthpiece. Official team kits are maintained and supplied by the club.

Financial Requirements

The club has a participant dues system that each member is required to pay. These funds are used to cover team jerseys, balls and other equipment, and match day expenses. Additionally, players are required from time to time to pay a travel assessment to cover the expenses associated with extended trips. ($200)

Academic Requiremtent

BACRFC expects all players to maintain a solid commitment to academic performance. The club will offer an Academic Achievement/Advisory Program to assist and recognize students.

Prospective Student Athletes

With the rapid growth of high school rugby throughout North Carolina and the US, more high school seniors are choosing to continue their education at a college where they can also play rugby at the highest level. We welcome all incoming freshman to the club - both those with experience and those without. Additionally, each year students come to the club after transferring from other colleges or universities. We welcome all transferring students to the club and hope they enjoy their experience with BACRFC while they continue their academic work. This is not an intramural sport. As a part of the North Carolina Rugby Union, Belmont Abbey College RFC will be competing at the highest level, with matches scheduled against mostly Division I programs. We require the same commitment as any other NCAA sport.
